BURIED BELOW

I feel this pit in me

sinking down.

It’s something I’ve been working on

digging deep.

I string out all the memories

that were encased inside.

My hands dirty from the work.

I watch them flicker behind my eyes.

There are some of you there,

joyfully.

But I have to erase them,

in spite of it all.

The shovel hits hard on the heart,

sending off a hollow sound.

In my mind,

the emptiness continues to echo around.
