Where were you –
when I took the steel
and pressed it to my throat to feel
death so close to life.
Where were you –
when the road ended
at that god forsaken house
with no way back out.
Where were you –
when I woke up on the floor
bruised and fractured,
drunk from the night before.
Where were you –
when I opened my eyes
to find my hands covered
with blood that wasn’t mine.
